Why does my software fail to activate or update after MSU renewal?

Background

An MSU (Maintenance and Software Update) subscription entitles the user to software updates and technical support for the subscription period. Renewing the MSU a new License Update Code that must be applied to the before the subscription period is extended. The software does not update automatically – the code must be entered by the user.

Sentinel SuperPro USB security key – Legacy products

For products using Sentinel SuperPro USB security key, the MSU renewal email includes a License Update Code that must be manually programmed into the physical key using the License Viewer utility:

  • Ensure the USB security key is connected to the computer.
  • Open the License Viewer: Start > All Programs > HydroComp License Utilities > License Viewer. If the utility is not installed, download it from www.hydrocompinc.com/licenseviewer.
  • From the License menu in the upper left corner, click Update license w/password.
  • Copy and paste the MSU License Update Code from the renewal email into the field and click OK.
  • Confirm the expiry date shown in the License Viewer has advanced to reflect the new subscription period.

Note: The update is a one-time process per renewal and does not need to be repeated once the key has been programmed successfully.

Common Failure Modes

  • Update license w/password menu item is grayed out: The USB security key driver requires repair. See the related article on Sentinel SuperPro driver repair.
  • License Viewer does not detect the key: Confirm the key is fully seated in the USB port and that the HydroComp License Utilities are installed. Try a different USB port.
  • Code entry accepted but expiry date unchanged: The code may have already been used or may have been entered incorrectly. Contact HydroComp support for a code reset.
