Background
HydroComp products shipped prior to 2018 used a Sentinel SuperPro USB hardware security key for license management. The key requires a device driver to be installed on the host computer. A known issue exists in some driver installations where the parallel port driver component is deselected by default, leaving the License Viewer unable to communicate with the key. This prevents applying MSU License Update Codes and can prevent the software from launching.
Symptom
The Update license w/password menu item in the License Viewer is grayed out (not clickable), even with the USB key connected. The software may also fail to launch with a license error.
Resolution
- Navigate to www.hydrocompinc.com/licenseviewer and download the License Viewer installer.
- Before or during driver installation, open the component selection screen.
- Locate the Parallel driver component. Confirm that it is selected (checked). If it is deselected, enable it.
- Complete the installation.
- Reopen the License Viewer. The Update license w/password option should now be active.
- Apply the MSU License Update Code as described in the related article.
Note: This issue has been encountered on Windows 10 systems where driver defaults were changed in an OS update. If the driver has already been installed and the parallel component is missing, use the Repair option in the driver installer to add it.
