How do I convert from a legacy USB security key license to the current software-based license?

Modified on Sun, 24 May at 9:15 AM

Applies to: All HydroComp products – conversion from USB key to CopyMinder licensing

Background

Prior to 2018, HydroComp products used a Sentinel SuperPro USB hardware security key for license management. Current products use CopyMinder software-based licensing, which provides the same license rights without requiring a physical key.

Existing users with USB key licenses can convert to software-based licensing. This is relevant for users who:

  • Have lost or damaged the physical USB key.
  • Are using computers that lack USB ports (thin clients, some laptops).
  • Need to access the software remotely via VPN or on a traveling laptop.
  • Want to eliminate the physical key dependency from their workflow.

Conversion Process

Contact HydroComp support with your existing license serial number and a request to convert to software-based licensing. HydroComp will:

  • Verify the existing license and MSU subscription status.
  • Issue a CopyMinder license key and activation instructions.
  • Advise on returning or decommissioning the physical USB key if applicable.

After conversion, installation and activation follow the standard CopyMinder ode-ocked or Floating procedure. See the related article on software setup for the appropriate license type.

Note on MSU Subscription

Conversion from USB key to software-based licensing does not change the subscription status. An active MSU is required for the converted software-based license. If the subscription has lapsed, it may need to be renewed concurrently with the conversion.
