Overview
A Floating license supports a specified number of concurrent users (seats) within a local network. The CopyMinder Server process runs on one designated computer (the license server) and manages the pool of available seats. Each user runs theCopyMinder Client, which requests a seat from the server when the HydroComp application is launched and releases it when the application is closed.
Installation Steps – Server Computer
The following is performed once on the designated license server computer. The server does not need to run the HydroComp application itself.
- Download the Server setup files from the links provided in the license delivery email (Step 1 and Step 2 files, in order).
- Unzip the installation files to a temporary folder.
- Right-click the Step 1 installer and select Run as administrator. Complete the installation.
- Right-click the Step 2 installer and select Run as administrator. Complete the installation.
- Confirm that the CopyMinder Server service is running in Windows Services.
The server files need only be installed once. They do not require reinstallation when the HydroComp application software is updated.
Installation Steps – Client
- Download the HydroComp application installer from the link in the license delivery email.
- Download the Client setup file from the link in the license delivery email.
- Install the HydroComp application on the workstation.
- Install the Client files (Run as administrator).
- On first launch, CopyMinder will auto-detect the license server via multicast. If auto-detect fails, manually enter the server's IP address or hostname in the CopyMinder Client configuration.
Confirming the Setup
Launch the HydroComp application on a client . If a license seat is available, the application will open normally. If all seats are in use, the user will receive a notification that no seats are available.
Troubleshooting
- Client cannot find the server: Confirm the server address and that the CopyMinder Server service is running. See the related article on multicast auto-detect.
- Client always uses local license instead of floating: A prior ode-ocked activation may be cached on the workstation. Follow the complete cleanup procedure at the article on software-based license cleanup.
- Server migration: Uninstall CopyMinder Server from the old computer before installing on the new server. Contact HydroComp if the server IP address changes and the license is IP-restricted.
